Marcelo Zarvos (Fences, Emancipation, Wonder, The Affair, Ray Donovan, The Good Shepherd) has recently been scoring the upcoming biographical drama Big George Foreman. The film is directed by George Tillman Jr. (The Hate U Give, Men of Honor) and stars Khris Davis, Jasmine Mathews, Sullivan Jones, John Magaro, Lawrence Gilliard Jr. and Sonja Sohn. The movie tells the story of the titular Olympic Gold medalist and World Heavyweight Champion who – following a near-death experience that took him from the boxing ring to the pulpit – returns to the ring and makes history by reclaiming his title, becoming the oldest and most improbable World Heavyweight Boxing Champion ever. Tillman Jr. also co-wrote the screenplay with Frank Baldwin (Cold Pursuit) based on a story by themselves and Dan Gordon (The Hurricane, Wyatt Earp). David Zelon (Into the Blue, When the Game Stands Tall) is producing the Affirm Films & Mandalay Pictures production. Big George Foreman will be released in theaters nationwide on April 28, 2023 by Sony Pictures.
Zarvos’ other recent projects include Roger Ross Williams’ Cassandro, which just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is set to be released later this year, as well as Eva Longoria’s directorial debut Flamin’ Hot, which will premiere at this year’s SXSW Film Festival before premiering on June 9 on Hulu.
