Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend (but advertised as a limited release) is the biographical sports drama Young Woman and the Sea directed by Joachim Rønning and starring Daisy Ridley, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Christopher Eccleston, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia and Glenn Fleshle. The film’s original music is composed by Amelia Warner (Mr. Malcolm’s List, Wild Mountain Thyme, Mary Shelley, Mum’s List). Also opening wide is the comedy drama Ezra directed by Tony Goldwyn and starring Bobby Cannavale, Robert De Niro, Rose Byrne, William Fitzgerald, Vera Farmiga, Rainn Wilson and Whoopi Goldberg. Carlos Rafael Rivera (The Queen’s Gambit, Lessons in Chemistry, Godless, A Walk Among the Tombstones, Griselda, Hacks) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as an original song written by Adrienne Ackerman and performed by Rae Isla today. Also opening nationwide is the comedy Summer Camp written and directed by Castille Landon and starring Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard, Dennis Haysbert, Eugene Levy, Josh Peck, Nicole Richie, Betsy Sodaro and Beverly D’Angelo. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Howe (Ted Lasso, Knuckles, Daisy Jones & the Six, Early Man, Shrinking, Book Club: The New Chapter, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon) . Also opening wide is the Canadian slasher In a Violent Nature written and directed by Chris Nash and starring Ry Barrett, Charlotte Creaghan and Liam Leone. The movie doesn’t feature an original score and no soundtrack release is expected. The film, which chronicles an enigmatic resurrection, rampage, and retribution of an undead monster in a remote wilderness. premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by IFC Films before making its streaming debut on Shudder later this year.
Opening semi-wide in around 700 theaters is the western The Dead Don’t Hurt written and directed by Viggo Mortensen and starring Mortensen himself, Vicky Krieps, Garret Dillahunt, Solly McLeod, Colin Morgan, Atlas Green, Ray Mckinnon, W Earl Brown and Danny Houston. Mortensen (who previously scored his 2020 feature Falling) has also composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Opening in New York following an awards-qualifying release last year and before expanding to more markets in the coming weeks is the animated feature Robot Dreams written and directed by Pablo Berger based on the graphic novel by Sara Varon. The film’s original music is composed by Alfonso de Vilallonga (Transsiberian, Blancanieves, Abracadabra, The Bookshop, It Snows in Benidorm). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score overseas in late 2023 and in the U.S. earlier this year.
