Antonio Di Iorio has joined Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) to score the upcoming monster movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The film is directed by Adam Wingard (The Guest, Death Note) who previously helmed the 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong (scored by Holkenborg) and stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Alex Ferns, Kaylee Hottle and Fala Chen. Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean series), Simon Barrett (You’re Next) & Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight) wrote the screenplay based on a story by Rossio, Wingard & Barrett. Mary Parent (Pacific Rim, The Revenant), Alex Garcia (Enola Holmes, Krampus), Eric Mcleod (Austin Powers, Mr. & Mrs. Smith), Thomas Tull & Jon Jashni (Kong: Skull Island) and Brian Rogers (Godzilla, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) are producing the Legendary Pictures production. Di Iorio has previously contributed additional music to numerous projects scored by Holkenborg, including Wingard’s first Godzilla vs. Kong movie, as well as Sonic the Hedgehog, Alita: Battle Angel, Mortal Engines and Tomb Raider. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be released in theaters nationwide on April 12, 2024 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
(Note: A press release accompanying the new trailer (embedded below) has Di Iorio listed as a co-composer, while only Holkenborg is currently listed in the project’s billing block. The final credits might not have been determined yet.)
Holkenborg (Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Divergent) has recently been scoring Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon movies, as well as George Miller’s Furiosa, which is set to open in theaters on May 24, 2024 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
