Weekly TV Music Roundup (July 9 2023)

Premiering on Wednesday, July 12, is the second season of the Apple TV+ original series The Afterparty created by Chris Miller & Phil Lord and starring Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, John Cho, Ken Jeong, Paul Walter Hauser, Anna Konkle, Elizabeth Perkins, Poppy Liu, Jack Whitehall, Vivian Wu and Zach Woods. David Schweitzer (EmmaOur Great National Parks,Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King) has joined Daniel Pemberton (who composed the music for the first season) to co-score the show’s second season of the mystery comedy, which will be available to stream on Apple TV+.

Premiering on Thursday, July 13, is the Max limited series Full Circle written by Ed Solomon, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Timothy Olyphant, Jharrel Jerome, CCH Pounder, Adia, Phaldut Sharma, Sheyi Cole, Suzanne Savoy, Gerald Jones, Ethan Stoddard, Lucian Zanes and Dennis Quaid. Zack Ryan (I Smile Back, Malibu Rescue, A Christmas Prince) has composed the show’s original music. Also premiering on Thursday is the Netflix original series Survival of the Thickest created by Michelle Buteau & Danielle Sanchez-Witzel and starring Buteau herself, Tone Bell, Tasha Smith, Taylor Selé, Garcelle Beauvais, Marouane Zotti, Liza Treyger and Anissa Felix. The show’s original music is composed by Transcenders (Gossip Girl, Madam Secretary, Black-ishOur Family Wedding). A soundtrack album is being released by Netflix Music. Also premiering on Thursday is the Hulu original documentary The Jewel Thief directed by Landon Van Soest and executive produced by Rick Brookwell and Ben Schwartz. Brad Oberhofer (The Andy Warhol Diaries) has composed the film’s original music. The movie, which centers on Gerald Blanchard, one of the most accomplished criminal masterminds in modern history and the two unlikely Winnipeg detectives who try to track him down, will be available to stream exclusively on Hulu.

Also premiering on Thursday is the sci-fi thriller Gray Matter directed by Meko Winbush and starring Jessica Frances Dukes, Mia Isaac and Garret Dillahunt. The film’s original music is composed by Haim Mazar (The Iceman, Woke, Sneakerheads, I Am Wrath, The Taking of Deborah Logan). Premiering on Friday, July 14, is the Spanish Netflix original film Bird Box Barcelona directed by Àlex Pastor & David Pastor and starring Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Diego Calva Hernández, Naila Schuberth, Alejandra Howard and Patrick Criado. Zeltia Montes (The Good Boss, AdiósSad Hill UnearthedTraces of Sandalwood) has composed the movie’s original music. The thriller, which expands the story of the Trent Reznor- & Atticus Ross- scored 2018 original Bird Box feature, will be available to stream on Netflix.
