Weekly Film Music Roundup (September 2, 2022)

Opening in theaters nationwide while also premiering on Peacock today is the satirical comedy Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul. written and directed by Adamma Ebo and starring Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown. The film’s original music is composed by Marcus Norris. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening wide is the drama Gigi & Nate directed by Nick Hamm and starring Charlie Rowe, Josephine Langford, Zoe Colleti, Hannah Alligood, Marcia Gay Harden,  Jim Belushi and Diane Ladd. Paul Leonard-Morgan (LimitlessDredd, Tales from the Loop, Wormwood, Dynasty) has composed the film’s original score and also co-wrote an original end credits song. A soundtrack album is in the works. Opening in select U.S. theaters today is the French drama Peter van Kant directed by François Ozon and starring Isabelle Adjani, Denis Ménochet, Adjani and Hannah Schygulla. The film’s original music is composed by Clément Ducol (Maestro, Little Tickles, I Wish Someone Were Waiting for Me Somewhere). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and a song performed by Adjani earlier this summer when the movie opened in France. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the French drama Waiting for Bojangles (En attendant Bojangles) directed by Régis Roinsard and starring Virginie Efira, Romain Duris, Grégory Gadebois and Solan Machado-Graner. Olivier & Clare Manchon (Black BoxColliding DreamsThe Drummer) have composed the film’s original music. Polydor Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as songs by Lola Flores and Marlon Williams. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the thriller Burial directed by Ben Parker and starring Charlotte Vega, Tom Felton, Harriet Walter, Bill Milner, Barry Ward and Dan Skinner . The film’s original music is composed by Alex Baranowski (The Windmere ChildrenA Christmas Carol, A Perfect Enemy, Staged). No word on a soundtrack release. Check out our previous article for more information about the movie, which is being distributed in the U.S. by IFC Midnight.

Also opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the thriller One Way directed by Andrew Baird and starring Colson Baker, Storm Reid, Drea de Matteo, Meagan Holder, Luis “Trikz” Da Silva Jr, Travis Fimmel and Kevin Bacon. Raffertie (aka Benjamin Stefanski) (White Dragon, Zone 414, Alex Rider) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. The movie, which follows a man on the run with a one way ticket to salvage what is left of his crime-ridden life, is being released by Saban Films.

Another movie coming out in select U.S. theaters and on VOD is the Australian documentary Blind Ambition directed by Warwick Ross & Robert Coe and about four Zimbabwean men who form their country’s first Wine Tasting Olympics team. The film’s original music is composed by Helena Czajka (RevelationAustralian Survivor). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score was released last year when the movie opened in Australia. Opening in a single theater today before premiering next Friday, September 9 on Netflix is the thriller End of the Road directed by Millicent Shelton and starring Queen Latifah, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Beau Bridges, Mychala Faith Lee, Shaun Dixon and Frances Lee McCain.
