Weekly Film Music Roundup (July 22, 2022)

Opening in theaters nationwide this week is the horror epic Nope written, directed and produced by Jordan Peele and starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Brandon Perea and Michael Wincott. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Abels (Get Out, Us, Allen v. Farrow, Bad EducationNightbooks, See You Yesterday). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie today. Opening in select U.S. theaters today is the French adventure comedy My Donkey, My Lover & I (Antoinette dans les Cévennes) written and directed by Caroline Vignal and starring Laure Calamy, Benjamin Lavernhe and Olivia Côte. Matei Bratescot (Les vetos) has composed the film’s original music. Chapka Films & La Filmerie have released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score when the movie opened in France last year. Click here to stream/download the soundtrack. The film is being distributed in the U.S. by Greenwich Entertainment.

Opening in select theaters today before coming out on VOD next Friday, July 29, is the romantic comedy drama Alone Together written and directed by Katie Holmes and starring Holmes herself, Jim Sturgess, Derek Luke, Zosia Mamet and Melissa Leo. The film’s original music is composed by Graham Reynolds (A Scanner Darkly, Before Midnight, Bernie, Where’d You Go, Bernadette, Last Flag Flying). No word on a soundtrack release. The movie premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is being released by Vertical Entertainment.
