Weekly Film Music Roundup (October 27, 2023)

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend while also premiering on Peacock today is the horror movie Five Nights at Freddy’s directed by Emma Tammi and starring Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Matthew Lillard, Mary Stuart Masterson, Kat Conner Sterling and Piper Rubio. The film’s original music is composed by The Newton Brothers (The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of UsherDoctor Sleep, The Forever Purge, Midnight Mass). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score today. Also opening wide is the action comedy Freelance directed by Pierre Morel and starring John Cena, Alison Brie, Marton Csokas, Juan Pablo Raba, Alice Eve and Christian Slater. Elliot Leung (The RescueOperation Red Sea, Warriors of Future) has composed the film’s original score and Geoff Zanelli (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Disturbia) has contributed the themes. Also opening nationwide is the documentary After Earth directed by Stephen Gray. The film’s original score is composed by Hannah Parrott (Harlan Coben’s Shelter, The Croods: Family TreeHead Count, When Jeff Tried to Save the World). Sypher Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a song by Chris Quilala today. Check back on this page for the full album to be added within the next day. The movie is being released by Angel Studios.

Opening semi-wide in several hundred theaters is the animated comedy Inspector Sun (Inspector Sun y la maldición de la viuda negra) directed by Julio Soto Gúrpide and starring Ronny Chieng, Emily Kleimo, Rich Orlow, Jennifer Childs Greer and Iain Batchelor.The film’s original music is composed by Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, A Monster Calls,The Orphanage, Hercules, Crimson Peak, Devil). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie opened in Spain and other international markets over the last year and is being distributed in the U.S. by Viva Pictures.
